EWN udsætter prognosemodellerne for en rigtig test ved at måle deres nøjagtighed med de faktiske vejrforhold for det område modellen dækker, som oftes er fra det nationale meteorologiske institut. Nøjagtigheden måles for cirka 900 lokationer nord for alperne og er beregnet ved at sammenligne vejrudsigten med den faktiske temperatur hver 3. time (kl. 00, 03, 06, 09, 12, 15, 18 og 21 UTC). Den benyttede vejrudsigt for næste dag bliver lavet cirka kl. 18 UTC. Disse resultater bruges derefter til beregning af EWN vejrudsigten.
